How to Use Nepali Typing Tool

Converting English text into Nepali script doesn't have to be complicated. With the Nepali Typing tool, you simply type the way a Nepali word sounds using English letters, and it instantly converts into proper Devanagari script. No special software, no new keyboard layout — just type and watch your words transform into नेपाली.

How It Works: Type in English, Get Nepali Text

Using the tool is simple:

  1. Type any English (Romanized) text inside the text box on the tool's page.
  2. Press Enter or hit the Space bar after typing a word or line.
  3. Watch the tool convert your text into Nepali script automatically.

Example:

Yo Mero Phone Ho → यो मेरो फोन हो |

Once converted, you can:

  • Copy the Nepali text directly to use anywhere, or
  • Export it as a plain text file by clicking the "Save to a File" button.

You can try this directly on Nepali Typing.

Understanding Nepali Alphabets

Nepali (Devanagari) script is built from 12 vowels and 36 consonants. Here's a quick primer before you start typing.

Vowels (स्वर)

In Nepali, vowels are called Swar (स्वरों). There are two types:

  • Independent vowels — used at the beginning of a syllable.
  • Dependent vowels (matra) — used when the vowel follows a consonant, attaching to it as a vowel sign.

Consonants (व्यञ्जन)

In Nepali, consonants are called vyanjan (व्यंजन). Each consonant is normally pronounced with an inherent "a" sound in its basic form. There are 36 consonant letters in total, each with its own distinct pronunciation.

Key Features of the Nepali Alphabet

  • Script origin: Nepali is written in the Devanagari script, which traces its roots to the ancient Brahmi script.
  • Writing direction: Like English and Hindi, Nepali is written left to right.
  • Character grouping: Letters in a word are connected by a horizontal line drawn over them — for example, क, ख, ग combine to form words like नेपालीमा लेख्नुहोस्.
  • Numerals: Nepali has its own numeral system, pronounced similarly to Hindi and other Devanagari-based scripts: १, २, ३, ४, ५, ६, ७, ८, ९, ०.
  • Phonetic consistency: Every letter has its own independent, distinct sound, so Nepali words are pronounced exactly as they are written — making the language easier to learn and speak.
  • Sentence-ending punctuation: Instead of a period or full stop like in English, Nepali uses a vertical line (।) to mark the end of a sentence.
  • Origin of the language: Nepali was originally known as "Khas Kura," the language of the Khas Kingdom.

Start typing in Nepali today — just type in English, and let the tool do the rest.
